Your Guide To A Dirt-Free Deepavali
The Festival of Lights is once again here to grace our streets with more warmth and colour than usual. In the spirit of the holiday, we've prepared some stain removal solutions to common Deepavali elements that are also prone to leaving stains on your fabrics.
Before you get lost in the razzle-dazzle of all the beautiful décor, we're here to make sure you're ready to remove stains just in case they happen.
Easy stain removal with Vanish Power O2
Kolam: These intricate designs on the floor, made from coloured rice and powder, can be seen from many shopping mall entrances weeks before Deepavali. Attractive as these patterns are, however, kolam can also cause stains, especially when we take the wrong approach to remove them.
Our natural inclination to remove stains is dousing the affected fabric immediately with water. With chalk, this approach just makes the coloured stain smear more. Instead, try to brush, shake or vacuum off as much of the chalk as possible before using wet methods to remove stains.
Proceed to pre-treat the stain with Vanish Power O2 stain remover and wash in warm water or as indicated in the garment label. You can repeat the process as needed to make sure the stain is gone after washing before you place your clothes in the dryer.
Henna:Another traditional way to celebrate Deepavali is to have your hands painted with henna art. What a joy to have these temporary tattoos, which are luckily often done for free by local artists. Just like kolam though, henna can stain your clothes and take effort to remove, but don't fret!
In case of staining, simply make a paste out of Vanish Power O2 and water, and apply on the affected area. Let the fabric sit for a few minutes, then do a regular wash using Vanish as any detergent. The most important thing to remember is to use cold water because hot water will set the stain and make it permanent.
Traditional Cuisine:What's a holiday without good food, right? Mithai (with or without masala chai) the usual curries, dahi vada, shrikhand and puri are among various Indian delicacies served by many homes during Deepavali. And, as expected, the rich sauces, spices, and yoghurt included in these dishes can seep deeply into cloth fibers and stain heavily.
To generally deal with these food stains, scrape excess sauce or food from the fabric. Apply some Vanish Power O2 on top of the stain and leave for a couple of minutes. If the stain is older, you can pre-treat the garment, following label instructions and also the pointers written on your Vanish Power O2 stain remover pack. After which, you can wash the fabric as normal and hang to dry.
